SD38 Policy Feedback

Richmond School District (SD38) Policy Feedback

At the June 27 public meeting of the Board of Education, the agenda will include a recommendation to approve the proposed SOGI (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity) Policy. A recommendation to approve indicates that the Board has examined an item in question and is ready to make a decision as to whether or not to approve the proposed policy.

The Board has allotted a total of two hours of time at this meeting in case stakeholders and members of the public wish to provide a brief comment. In order to accommodate as many people as possible, the time allotted will be limited to a maximum of two minutes per person.

Members of the public who reside in Richmond wishing to request the opportunity to speak may do so by visiting the school district website at www.sd38.bc.ca. Requests to speak will be taken starting at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, June 25. Spaces on the speakers’ list will be granted on a first come-first served basis. Anyone requesting to speak will be emailed within 24 hours indicating whether or not they have been provided a time to speak, or whether they have been placed on the waitlist.

Anyone wishing to speak must be a resident of Richmond and will be required to provide proof of Richmond residency with photo identification at the beginning of the meeting. In order to provide a safe and respectful environment, messages on any objects and symbolic materials such as signs, banners or clothing must be in compliance with District code of conduct expectations. Signs and banners must be hand-held and small enough that they do not block the view of others during the meeting. The Richmond School District reserves the right to require participants to leave any item not consistent with these expectations outside the school.
